San Diego, California – Diakont, along with strategic partner Structural Integrity Associates, Inc., was presented the 2015 MP Corrosion Innovation of the Year Award for RODIS Robotic ILI with SIPECTM dynamic pulsed eddy current technology. SIPEC inspects the integrity of pipelines through internal liners and heavy corrosion. The industry-leading technology is integrated with a robotic inline inspection (ILI) crawler developed by Diakont, a globally-recognized high-tech solution provider to the nuclear power industry. The Award was presented on March 16, 2015 by Harvey Hack, the President of NACE, at the 2015 NACE Corrosion Conference. Structural Integrity and Diakont were selected to receive the award because it showcases progressive technological developments in the ability to detect and size corrosion defects in difficult to assess environments.
The delivery vehicle for SIPEC is Diakont’s RODIS ILI crawler which includes dual base tracks for navigation on horizontal surfaces and a single top track that can be extended to the pipe wall for stabilization when needed. This single top track provides the necessary traction for holding the crawler rigidly in place while inspecting difficult pipe geometries. Using this robust traction system, the RODIS robotic crawler can navigate difficult-to-assess applications where conventional ILI tools may not be feasible such as vertical sections and mitered bends. The SIPEC probe is based on dynamic pulsed eddy current technology with a unique ability to capture data while in motion with up to 0.600” lift-off, providing complete volumetric assessment of the piping.
The RODIS Robotic ILI with SIPEC technology can identify ID or OD initiated corrosion while improving data quality and decreasing time and costs for inspecting pipes with internal liners such as cement or fiberglass, or pipes with heavy ID corrosion. According to Edward Petit de Mange, Managing Director of Diakont, “Utilizing Diakont’s versatile crawler coupled with Structural Integrity’s SIPEC, a dynamic pulsed eddy current technology, has provided the industry’s first ILI solution for inspecting piping with internal liners.”
In addition, the RODIS ILI crawler is ideal for inspecting large diameter gas, steam, oil, water and wastewater, and service water piping. Working from within the piping instead of inspecting from the outside, the RODIS ILI crawler eliminates the need for costly and often impractical excavations.
“We are pleased to team with Diakont to deliver this industry-leading technology,” commented Laney Bisbee, President and CEO of Structural Integrity Associates, Inc. “Our engineers pride themselves on providing cutting-edge innovative leadership to solve industry problems. By working with Diakont, we have once again made corrosion detection easier and more efficient.”
