RODIS Crawler

In-line pipe Inspection through sections of complex geometry where pigs cannot pass

Laser Weld InspectionFor over 8 years, the RODIS System has been relied-upon by the energy industry for the purposes of inspecting pipe walls, welds, and interiors to ensure public safety, and gas system economy and up-time. The RODIS can navigate pipes with inner diameters from 19” to 59”, climb vertical sections, and can transverse curves, half-bends, T-bends, and stop valves. Access to deploy the robot can be gained through any opening 18” or greater, including partially-disassembled check valves. The travel range is then up to 2600’ in each direction.

The RODIS System features:

  • Pipeline inspection without digging or surface preparation
  • Quantitative, comprehensive analysis of pipe safety
  • Robotic crawler is hermetically-sealed and explosion-proof

Inspections are conducted through the use of multiple sensors:

  1. Laser-Holographic – For inspection of annular welds
  2. Ultrasonic (EMAT) – For inspection of pipe thickness through 360°, including detection of radial or axial defects
  3. Visual – For surveying to trace and discover sediment, condensate, or foreign objects

Service to Ensure 100% Customer Satisfaction

When your utility contracts Diakont to conduct your facility inspection, you receive the full valet treatment. Typically 3 technicians will support the robot – an NDE specialist, a technical robot operator, and a pipeline worker. You will be kept appraised of progress through the process by the Project Manager, and once complete you will receive all technical reports as scheduled.

Common pipe defects detected include:

  • Loss of metal on exterior pipe surface (from corrosion, pitting, dents, construction damage, etc.)
  • SCC as small as 1 mm
  • Internal pipe body defects (interstices, exfoliations, segregations, etc.)
  • Pipe wall thinning at bends

Inspection applications include:

  • Gas compressor stations
  • Delivery and distribution facility piping
  • Insulated pipes
  • Municipal steam and water pipelines
  • Refinery piping
  • Road and river crossings
  • Offshore pipelines
