EMAT NDT

EMAT Non-contact thickness measurement

Diakont’s EMAT measurement system uses electromagnetic-acoustic technology to perform thickness measurement, across a gap of as much as 2-3 mm between the transducer and the subject metal. This allows the test to be conducted through layers of paint or corrosion without a need to perform cleaning or surface preparation prior to the examination.

Diakont’s system is unique because of its ability to make dynamic-mode measurements, with either the sensor, or with the inspected surface in continual motion. This allows for dynamic inspection over an entire long surface. Cylindrical surfaces such as pipes, or pressure vessels, are inspected in a spiral pattern so that the entire volume is covered.

Features

  • High accuracy of <0.1 mm
  • Dynamic mode scanning – Continuous data captured either by time or distance
  • Non-contact – Works on corroded or painted surfaces with no preparation
  • Compact size of transducer and display unit
  • Can be used to detect localized thinning

Industry Applications

  • Energy
  • Oil and Gas
  • Shipbuilding and Ship Repair
  • Aerospace and Aviation
  • Metal Fabrication
